Rhodesian Passport The Rhodesian Passport became almost redundent as a travel document after the Unilateral Declaration of Independence (UDI) in 1965. It has been reported that after the imposition of UN sanctions, the passport was only being accepted by South Africa, Portugal, Greece and Switzerland. However, this Embassy is aware that the Rhodesian passport was also accepted on many occasions as a legitimate travel document to, surprisingly, both Malawi and Mozambique. It was also accepted for travel to the UK, provided that it was endorsed by a British Embassy, prior to arrival in the UK. It has been a matter of debate as to whether or not a Zimbabwe - Rhodesia passport was ever issued during the period 1979 - 1980. In this regard, we were pleased to receive recently a couple of images of such a passport from a visitor to the Embassy website, to whom we would like to express our sincere thanks. These images are represented below. |
